The blueberry fields on Old State Road

As I recall as a young girl my mother would take Joelin and I on a walk or sometimes a short drive down the street to the blueberry fields covering our neighbors stretch of land. We would walk out of the driveway and make a left on Old State Road, two driveways down on the right stood the Rep house. The walk up the dirt hill was very steep and I can remember as the sun hit that dirt road in the middle of August how long it took my sister and I to get up what seemed to be a mountain. Our hair silky and shiny in the sun's light and our eyes bright and open to what awaited us at the top of that hill, I can see us now. Blueberries and more blueberries, how exciting it was. I small act would seem to fill our entire afternoon as my mother would chat with the owner of the blueberry patches and we would stand closely by her side. Joelin and I would come home and fill ceramic bowls with blueberries and milk and sit at the large handmade wooden table with two beautiful benches that lined either side. Other days I can remember putting on long sleeve shirts and old jeans so that we could pick blackberries in the woods. We would find each other after a bit of time went by to see who had the most and then head home to create our milk and berry treat. Down the street further was a small corn, tomato and vegetable stand where my mother would take us so we could buy a few items for dinner. It was a peaceful road where we had lemonade stands, garage sales and fashion shows. You name it we were on it and there sparked the beginnings of my entrepreneurial spirit. What a beautiful life on Old State Road. Rise Above and Conquer All That Scares You -From the wise words of my sister, Joelin..you truly are beautiful.
