So last night as Shan and I were hanging tough at the retreat, I ask Shan, "Hey should we let Charlie and Marley out?" So we do and the next thing I know Marley runs in to the house going balistic and Charlie is out back defending the yard from a skunk. Both dogs got sprayed! Thank gosh they were okay and we gave them baths. No one got bit, however the smell just would not dissipate. We called the animal hospital just to make sure we shouldn't bring them in. I stayed up until 5 in the morning drinking a bottle of red wine and cleaning the retreat. And just as I was going to write it off as a full on Friday the 13th nightmare I went to my trusty brain for a quick idea on how to turn this thing around...so of course being the google googler that I am I found the symbolism behind a skunk. And boy this was in no way, shape or form and accident, in fact it was a blessing. Here is what I found:
To the Native Americans, skunks symbolize understanding how to "walk your talk", reputation, sensuality, understanding energy flows, self-respect, courage, will-power, self-confidence, caution, perseverance and determination.
Super sick! And this is interesting in our lives right now (Shan and I's) because many changes are occuring that directly relate to this, it is unbelievable how perfectly it makes sense. So, as I conclude today's post with that I will leave by saying..google, google, google...it just might have the answer.

Life without Ruby?
The date was May 11th of this year. I got a phone call from my sister earlier on that day saying that she felt Ruby was coming. My sister was 9 months pregnant and looking more stylish and beautiful than ever. I remember just the week before I invited her down to the retreat for some real R and R. See it's funny, when you get invited to the retreat realize that you will actually be resting and relaxing. We don't do anything, we just enjoy each other. It is so awesome. So Joelin came to the retreat and I played the bongo for her, she read me books on being pregnant and made me read about the actual labor part because she wanted me to be able to understand when it was all going down. So that night knowing how much she loves King Crab Legs I took her down to Joe's Crab Shack just down the street and watched my Josie feed herself and that little bundle of joy that low and behold would be born not but a week later. That night I made her my special Molten chocolate lava cake, organic berries and Vanilla Ice Cream from Madagascar, where the true vanilla bean hails! She was on cloud 47.
I remember getting the text around 8pm while at the wine bar. That night was so powerful. It was all just so easy. As I drove the 405 freeway it was like someone had told everyone to get off the roads, Dods is going to the hospital in Tarzana so keep the roads clear. I breezed up and Andy met me at the door. Joelin was laying down on the bed doing really well. Her calm and cool demeanor was reassuring, she had prepared well for the challenge. Like a real warrior prepares, she prepared with concentration and awareness. The nurse on duty at that time just didn't seem to be working out, her energy just didn't mesh. So it's funny how things happen, not but two minutes later a woman with blond hair walks into the room and says, "My name is Rita I will be taking care of you now." Gosh it was such a blessing. She was caring and gentle with Joelin and was genuine. Now it was complete. The birth went so quick and so smooth that by 300am we had a little Ruby Malin Ferguson with the biggest blue eyes and a beautiful smile. Heck, she wanted to stay up later than all of us. I remember she was very alert and aware she too was displaying her warrior traits. My sister is more beautiful now than I have ever seen her, I can truly say that she is complete with Ruby. She decided to take on the hardest challenge one could possibly take on and that is to bring a little life into the world. But more importantly the life of Ruby...Andy and Joelin have blessed my life with her and for that I will forever be grateful to them. That little soul means more to me than I can even understand right now. Ruby was born on the 11th day of May 2007, the anniversary of the late Robert Nesta Marley and Ruby is a person that Bob calls out to in one of his acoustic medley's. "Ruby here I am come rub it from your belly like a guava jelly." I had made a cd for Joelin to play during the labor and one of those songs was that Bob song. Rita is the widow of the late Bob Marley. When Rita, our nurse took care of my sister she did it from a genuine place in her heart...I am thankful for that.
I can also recall singing and holding her hand at a hard time in the labor, "Is The Love Enough" by Michael Franti and Gentlemen.
What mother nature gives, mankind refuse to let live, taking the universe in there own hands. Start circuiting the positive, charging the negative because in the most unusual circumstances. Everyday we rise up in battle of the fight again hoping that our hearts will receive our love today. Blessed words we speak again...to live in this here garden of eden.
I am so thankful for you Ruby, you have given me courage, strength and the light. Rise Above and Surrender to the Flow. PS See photos, I will be posting a picture of my gorgeous sister and the little love Ruby
